Jano Lisboa
Jano Lisboa boasts an impressive music career, having clinched first prizes in both the viola and chamber music categories at the Prémio Jovens Músicos in Lisbon, Portugal, as well as earning an accolade at the Watson Forbes International Viola Competition in Scotland. Furthermore, he emerged victorious in the NEC Mozart Concerto Competition in Boston in 2006.
At the age of 13, Lisboa made the switch from the piano to the viola and commenced his studies under the tutelage of José Luis Duarte and Paul Wakabayashi. Subsequently, he journeyed to Boston, USA, to further his education under the guidance of Kim Kashkashian at the New England Conservatory, ultimately obtaining a master’s degree in music.
Between 2007 and 2008, Lisboa served as a member of the Quatuor Benaïm, embarking on tours across Europe, Japan, and Israel. Since September 2013, he has held the position of Principal Viola in the Munich Philharmonic.
Lisboa regularly graces audiences with solo concerts and chamber music performances across the globe, including Europe, the USA, Brazil, Asia, and Africa. He has graced renowned venues such as the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Jordan Hall in Boston, Royal Albert Hall in London, Philharmonie in Berlin, Herkulessaal in Munich, and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Among his chamber music collaborators are Peter Donohoe, Tabea Zimmermann, the Endellion String Quartet, Miguel da Silva, Vincent Planès, and many others.
