It is difficult to say anything that hasn’t already been said about Sissel Kyrkjebø, but a conversation in the car between Artistic Director, Tine, and Festival Director Eirik hits the nail on the head. “I started trembling when Sissel said yes. She is a true superstar,” commented Tine when she confirmed that Sissel is coming to Risør.

A national treasure and our joint voice are some of the terms used about the girl from Bergen, whose birthday coincides with the opening day of the 2025 edition of the festival, June 24th. Her list of achievements makes you dizzy, ranging from Schubert to Deep Purple, “O mio babbino caro” to “Udsigter fra Ulrikken,” with artists from Plácido Domingo and Bryn Terfel to rapper Warren G.

For the first time ever she’ll visit Risør, fully supported by our friends in the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, performing outdoors at Stangholmen. Because when Sissel finally plays our festival, we make sure to do it properly.
