In darkness, there is also light
The title may be a bit dark, but no, this will not be a blood orgy where death is celebrated. Rather, it is a recognition that not everything is always rosy, and that we need contrasts to understand what is good and what is bad.
The pieces range from Mendelssohn’s “Songs Without Words,” Clara Schumann’s “Romances,” to the Americans Muhly’s “Drown” and the concert title piece, Bryce Dessner. Dessner has taken an old European tradition of telling the stories of tragic murders through songs and given them an American twist. We thus get the old continent’s traditions in a new packaging.
The entire crème de la crème of artists will be present. With such a range of works, everyone must contribute.
