Dirigent Tor Morten Halvorsen

Tor Morten Halvorsen

Conductor

«Det direktionsmæssige overskud prægede debutkonserten, der av hensyn til både klangform og musikalsk fortolkning bød på et overflødighedshorn af stor, bevgæende korkunst»

Berlingske Tidende

Biography

Originally from Skien and trained as a pianist and music educator, he is now a permanent fixture and driving force for the well-being of the music scene in Southern Norway. He has established himself as one of our best choir conductors, and works as a cantor in Risør Church and leads the Risør Motet Choir. He also teaches regularly at the summer course organized by the Südtiroler Sängerband.

If we are to interpret an interview Tor Morten did when he finished his studies in choir and orchestral conducting in the conducting class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, it seems he will experience one of his great dreams this summer. After receiving unanimous acclaim for his conducting, he stated that one of his dreams was to conduct Ein deutsches Requiem by Brahms. He will fulfill this dream at the festival this summer.

It is only fitting that Tor Morten takes up the baton after one of last year’s biggest highlights: the festival choir’s performance of Carmina Burana. This year will be just as grand and epic.
