When opposites attract

Here you get exactly what the poster says. Antonín and Johannes without any frills. One with his heart in rural and romantic Bohemia, and the other from the bustling metropolis of Hamburg. Nevertheless, their journeys are closely connected.

Brahms was an important contributor to Dvořák’s eventual breakthrough, helping secure him an annual scholarship so he could live off composing music. Interestingly, Brahms belongs to a musical style known as absolute music, which is often described as music for music’s sake, without storytelling or associations. This cannot be said about Dvořák’s work, which often draws on reality and life. So, here we have two giants, with different styles, who found common ground both as colleagues and friends. In other words, something for all of us to take note of.

For this concert, we have the top tier of artists. That’s a must when presenting two such diverse composers. Therefore, you can confidently say that you were in Risør and heard the best composers, performed by the best artists. This is what chamber music in Risør is all about.
