Biography
The prodigy who rose to the elite. The first part of this story has been heard many times, but unfortunately, many talents disappear before they reach the top. Benjamin Grosvenor managed the leap and is now established as one of the greatest pianists of the “new golden generation.” He visited Risør for the first time in 2022, and his return now is possibly even more remarkable. His list of achievements grows year by year.
For those who remember a very young Benjamin on BBC in the early 2000s, everyone will mention his almost unreal technical prowess. It is raw talent. It is innate. But even then, and even more so now, he stands as a true artist who conveys themes and stories in a direct and unfiltered manner. “To play so effortlessly?” was one of the comments from his very special visit to Resonans in Gjøvik in January 2024.
In interviews he always mentions that he is most concerned with sharing everything music has given him to others. Whether he plays at Carnegie Hall or Wigmore Hall, with the Berlin Philharmonic, or teaches, he always gives his all. That is his true gift. He comes to Risør with his wife, violinist Hyeyoon Park, and these are must-see-and-hear concerts during the festival.
