Gunnar Flagstad

Gunnar Flagstad got his education from Østlandets (Eastern Norway’s) Music Conservatory and The Norwegian State Academy of Music (NMH), where he graduated in

the spring of 1997 with the highest marks, in accompaniment. Since the autumn of that year, he has been employed at NMH and is today an associate professor in accompaniment as well as department leader for piano, accompaniment, guitar, and accordion. Flagstad has also for a number of years been associated with the Barratt Due music institute.

Gunnar Flagstad has performed in numerous European countries, including leading venues such as Wigmore Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and BBC Radio 3 (London), Konzerthaus (Berlin), Lucerne Festival (Switzerland), Usadba Jazz festival (Russia), as well Norwegian festivals such as Festspillene in Bergen, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Hardanger Music Festival, and Festspillene in Northern Norway. He is a regular guest on NRK radio and TV, has toured the country with Rikskonsertene, and can be heard among other places as part of Tine Thing Helseth Quintet, the contemporary ensemble TRAKTOR, and the piano duo 20 Fingers.

Flagstad is one of three artistically responsible for the concert series “Resonance” in Gjøvik. He is also a supervisor for accompaniment for the Valdres Summer Symphony course and festival and sits on the artistic committee for The Ringsaker Opera.
