Peter Szilvay
Conductor
«… jeg mener at man er nødt til å være nysgjerrig og engasjert i selve musikken for å kunne være en god dirigent.»
Biografi
What a start to a conductor’s career to become the assistant conductor for none other than Mariss Jansons. After starting as a violist in the Oslo Philharmonic, Peter became more and more in demand as a conductor. Who better to learn from than Jansons himself? His influence showed when Peter won the major conductor competition “Conductor of the Year” in 1996.
Since his breakthrough with KORK in 1996, he has only moved upwards, and today he is one of the leading conductors in the country. He has led every orchestra in Norway you can think of, but also prestigious ones abroad like the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
But perhaps most importantly, he is giving back and helping teach the next great conductors. He works as an associate professor of conducting at the University of Stavanger, thereby contributing to the development of the next generation of conductors. He is a major part of the Dirigentløftet program. During this year’s festival, he will hold the baton when the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra performs with Sissel Kyrkjebø at Stangholmen.
