Emily began at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester in 2002 to study with Graham Salvage until 2004, when she moved to Gothenburg, Sweden. There, she studied with Anders Engström at the Gothenburg University College of Music and participated in masterclasses across Europe with Klaus Thunemann, Rachel Gough, Martin Gatt, Stepan Turnovsky, Marco Lugaresi, and Gustavo Nunez.

In 2006, Emily moved to Berlin to study with Volker Tessmann at the Hanns Eisler School of Music. Following this, in 2008, she became a member of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of chief conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

Invited by Zubin Mehta, Emily worked as principal bassoonist with the opera choir of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia from January 2012 to June 2013.

In 2014, Emily obtained the position of co-principal bassoonist with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, where she remains employed.

Emily was a finalist in the International Gillet Fox Competition in 2010. She received three consecutive awards from the MMSF (Martin Music Scholarship Fund), followed by an MMSF concert with musicians from the Philharmonia in 2007. Emily has received various scholarships in Sweden, including scholarships from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, the Ekman Foundation, and the Ljungren Competition. In 2011, Emily was awarded the prestigious Sten A Olsson Foundation for Culture Scholarship and most recently, in February 2015, Prince Carl Gustaf’s Youth Scholarship.

A creative background has given Emily the freedom to explore the boundaries within her playing. She has a passion for exploring the bassoon’s capacity within improvisational and experimental groups and creates her own music with electronics.
