Biography

Most people who are somewhat interested in music have probably heard of Marius Neset. But we are unsure if people up here in the north realize how big he is abroad, and how long he has actually been big internationally. The enthusiasts might say that this is old news, but for the regular Risør audience, we need to make it clear: Marius Neset is a top international jazz name, with a track record few can match over the past 10 years.

Not only is he a virtuoso and brilliant saxophonist who has played with most, but he has also proven to be groundbreaking as a composer and arranger for music across various genres. The new collaboration with Leif Ove Andsnes is well-known, but before this, he has had several major collaborations with the renowned London Sinfonietta, as well as commissions for large international jazz orchestras and jazz festivals.

His love for music and the opportunity to experiment with rhythm and tone started at the age of five when he got his first drum set, and when he turned eight, the saxophone took over. The energy a child has when discovering something they love is what we still get in abundance from Marius to this day. Together with his little sister Ingrid, we will notice that the Neset clan is arriving in Risør.
