Keyed fiddle
Swedish world champion and Norwegian Grammy winner. Emilia Amper enchants audiences worldwide with the nyckelharpa's silvery sound and infectious energy.
About the Artist
A firecracker of a folk musician. Emilia Amper is world champion on the nyckelharpa, Norwegian Grammy winner, and one of Sweden's most sought-after musicians. She's back with us, this time as one of the stars at this summer's grand Festival Concert on Stangholmen.
The nyckelharpa's silvery, warm sound has followed Emilia since she discovered the instrument by chance at ten years old. It was love at first sight. Or as she puts it herself: she slept with the instrument beside her in bed.
Emilia moves effortlessly across genres. She has performed as soloist with the Trondheim Soloists and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, with flamenco dancers in Switzerland, with Kurdish and Persian musicians, and with pop and jazz stars. Always with the same burning curiosity and infectious energy.
When you feel that contact, get into the groove, overbuild language or culture gaps... That inspires me tremendously! It's what I live for!
The list of accolades is impressive: world champion on the nyckelharpa, Artist of the Year at the Swedish Folk & World Music Awards, riksspelman (national fiddler of Sweden), and winner of the NPU Prize for Nordic composition. Together with the Trondheim Soloists, she won the Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy) in 2011. She has been nominated for both Swedish and American Grammys.
At the prestigious classical label BIS Records, she is the only folk musician on the roster. There she released the album Lux in 2016, and a new album is planned for autumn 2025.
