Johanna Rudström

Johanna Rudström started this season with the role of the Composer in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, where she is currently engaged as a guest soloist. This spring, Johanna will portray Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Beggar Woman in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. The upcoming season of 2023/24 commences with Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, followed by the role of Donna Elvira in a new production of Don Giovanni, both at the Royal Swedish Opera.

Johanna Rudström’s previous roles at the Royal Swedish Opera include Angelina in La Cenerentola, Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Eve/Young Tristessa in the world premiere of Tristessa, Mercedes in Carmen, Olga in Eugene Onegin, Dimitri in Giordano’s Fedora, and Karolka in Jenůfa. She has performed as Flosshilde in Das Rheingold and Götterdämmerung, and as Rossweisse in Die Walküre. Johanna has also appeared as Arsamene in Handel’s Serse, Blumenmädchen in Parsifal, and The unknown young woman in the contemporary Medea by Swedish composer Daniel Börtz.

In 2017, Johanna Rudström sang the role of Fjodor in Boris Godunov in concert and recording with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mo Nagano, both at the Gothenburg Concert Hall and the Stockholm Concert Hall.

Johanna Rudström has previously been a guest at the Grand Théâtre de Genève where she performed in the role of La Styliste in Cherubini’s Médée. She has also participated in the contemporary opera Son of Heaven by Japanese composer Moto Osada at the Vadstena Academy in Sweden.

Johanna Rudström graduated in 2014 from the University College of Opera in Stockholm. She has also studied at the Malmö Academy of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
